Beck and The Polyphonic Spree Headline Hollywood Records' ``Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'' Soundtrack

BURBANK, Calif.--()--Feb. 25, 2004--

Album in Stores on March 16th; Film Opens Nationwide on March 19th

Hollywood Records has announced a March 16th release date for ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, the companion album to the upcoming Focus Features release starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, and Kirsten Dunst. The movie opens nationwide on March 19th.

Like the film that inspired it, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is trippy and kaleidoscopic, filled with swirling melodies and sharp pop hooks. The album's centerpiece is Beck's cover of the Korgis' Brit-pop hit "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime." The film's composer, Jon Brion ("Magnolia," "Punch-Drunk Love"), provided the music for the track and brought in Beck to handle vocals. The original version, released in 1980, appeared on the Korgis' second album "Dumb Waiters" and shot to the Top 20 of Billboard's Pop Singles Chart.

Twenty-four-member choral symphonic pop group The Polyphonic Spree illuminate the soundtrack with "Light And Day," which also appears on their critically acclaimed debut "The Beginning Stages Of..."

Additional highlights on ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND include Brion's vividly-colored compositions, legendary Indian vocalist Lata Mangeshkar ("Wada Na Tod"), up-and-coming Anaheim, CA-based rock band The Willowz ("Something," "I Wonder"), classic rockers Electric Light Orchestra ("Mr. Blue Sky"), and Don Nelson ("Some Kind of Shuffle," "Nola's Bounce").

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" stars Jim Carrey as Joel, who is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contracts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover his love for Clementine. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get Clementine out of his head.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" stars Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, and Tom Wilkinson. The film is directed by Michel Gondry, written by Charlie Kaufman, and produced by Steve Golin and Anthony Bregman.
