Inside the $63 Million Investment Modernizing Over 1,700 Fort Sill Homes
Energy transformation showcases how installations are advancing innovation benefiting thousands of military families
FORT SILL, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Corvias recently brought together dozens of Army leaders, congressional representatives, and partners to showcase a $63 million investment focused on improving resident comfort and installation resilience at Fort Sill. The project upgrades over 1,700 military family homes with high-efficiency geothermal heating and cooling, smart thermostats, new hot water systems, and advanced controls.
The work is expected to cut annual energy use across the Fort Sill housing community by 57 percent – generating over $5 million in annual savings. Residents will also benefit from greater reliability and reduced maintenance needs.
“As we leverage advanced technologies and partnerships to build a more resilient Fort Sill, it is essential for our collective teams to be synchronized through this process to rapidly deliver the enhanced homes our military families deserve and to generate critical savings that can be reinvested back into Fort Sill and our people,” said U.S. Army Col. John Morgan, Fort Sill garrison commander.
Partnerships Driving Innovation
The event reflects Corvias’ collaborative approach to advancing military installations as hubs for innovation – bringing together government, military, and industry partners to identify and validate solutions that strengthen readiness and quality of life.
“This project reflects our commitment to innovating at scale for the betterment of military families,” said Corvias EVP of Investment Management, Kyle Miller. “Through our expanded partner network and Solutions Through Partnerships® approach, we are able to address some of the military's most pressing infrastructure and quality of life challenges.”
Modernization at Work
The event provided attendees with a start-to-finish look at the modernization efforts. Led by Corvias, and supported by Velarium Energy and Ameresco, the tour began at Oklahoma City-based ClimateMaster, which manufactures the geothermal heat pumps being installed at Fort Sill, before moving directly on post to observe drilling operations. Geothermal systems use the Earth's stable underground temperatures to heat and cool homes, reducing energy consumption 40 percent to 70 percent compared to traditional HVAC.
Following the demonstrations, attendees visited a home equipped with the newly installed upgrades, including advanced system controls that use AI to enable predictive maintenance.
A Self-Funding Model for Modernization
Fort Sill's energy transformation is being delivered through an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), a flexible financing model that allows installations to modernize infrastructure now and pay for improvements over time through generated savings. Across the Corvias portfolio, ESPC projects are projected to generate approximately $61 million in annual savings and more than $1.7 billion over their lifecycle.
Alongside similar initiatives in wellness, digital transformation, and other priority areas, the project demonstrates how Corvias communities can serve as model sites for scaling site-level innovation nationwide, helping accelerate implementation and readiness for military families and installations alike.
