NEMA Celebrates Make It American™ Program’s First Anniversary with Landmark Schneider Electric Certification Milestone

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a first for American manufacturing, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) today announced that Schneider Electric has earned Make It American™ certification for each of its 20-plus U.S. manufacturing facilities – the first company in the program’s history to certify its entire domestic manufacturing footprint. The milestone coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Make It American program’s launch and underscores the growing momentum among American manufacturers to demonstrate and validate their commitment to domestic production.

“Schneider Electric’s achievement in certifying all its U.S. manufacturing facilities through the Make It American program sets a powerful example for the industry,” said NEMA President and CEO Debra Phillips. “At a time when the nation is investing in infrastructure, reshoring critical industries, and strengthening domestic supply chains, Schneider Electric is showing what leadership looks like — delivering trusted, American-made electrical solutions while helping build a more competitive and resilient manufacturing base for the future.”

Schneider Electric was among the first companies to join the Make It American program when NEMA launched it in 2025. The company’s certified facilities span more than a dozen states — from California and Texas to Tennessee and Maine — and include plants operating under both the Schneider Electric and ASCO Power Technologies brands.

  • Earning certification required independent third-party audits of Schneider Electric's supply chain evaluation and domestic content calculation processes.
  • Along with on-site inspections at a representative sample of its U.S. facilities, confirming compliance with the rigorous criteria established by NEMA's supply chain evaluation process standard.

“As the first company to certify 20+ U.S. facilities through NEMA's Make It American program, we're giving customers independently verified assurance that energy tech powering their projects can meet domestic content requirements," said Kelly Becker, President of North America Operations, Schneider Electric. “Amid rising energy demand from AI, electrification, and advanced manufacturing, strengthening our U.S. supply chain is critical to helping us meet the moment, and these certifications give our customers the verified confidence they need to meet it too.”

Since its launch one year ago, the Make It American program has grown into one of the manufacturing sector's most consequential initiatives — driving investment in U.S. production while simplifying domestic content compliance for government and industry alike.

  • Twelve companies have now earned certification for at least one facility, and NEMA has developed ten Build America, Buy America (BABA) product specifications to which participating companies may certify.
  • Certified facilities and products are listed in the publicly accessible NEMA Make It American BABA Registry, giving contractors and procurement professionals across the public and private sectors a reliable, real-time resource for identifying products with greater shares of domestic content.

Make It American certification is open to any U.S. manufacturer — from valve manufacturers to escalator producers to pipe fabricators — not just electrical manufacturers. The program extends to distributors as well: Fulltrades, LLC became the first non-manufacturer to earn certification, demonstrating that the program’s framework is designed to accommodate the full breadth of the domestic electrical supply chain.

This milestone builds on the rapid growth of NEMA’s Make It American™ program. Since launch, manufacturers across product categories — including wire and cable, distribution equipment, drive systems, and building controls — have joined the program. The program has also gained bipartisan momentum on Capitol Hill, with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advancing the BUILD America 250 Act by a 62–2 vote, including language recognizing the NEMA process standard behind Make It American™. Further underscoring the program’s credibility, the Federal Highway Administration has formally recognized Make It American as an official industry resource for Build America, Buy America compliance.

NEMA continues to develop and publish new specifications to help leading manufacturers verify and demonstrate their alignment with BABA domestic content requirements, reinforcing their commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing and supply chain integrity.
