Greenvolt Power and Bedrock Renewables Acquire 116 MW of Operational Wind Projects in Iowa

  • Greenvolt Power, part of the global Greenvolt Group, and Bedrock Renewables acquire:
    • Hardin Hilltop Wind, a 15 MW wind project in Greene County, Iowa
    • Crosswind, a 21 MW wind project in Palo Alto and Clay Counties, Iowa
    • Top of Iowa Wind, an 80 MW project in Worth County, Iowa
  • These are operational wind projects that are expected to be repowered in the next few years.

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Greenvolt Power, part of the global Greenvolt Group, and Bedrock Renewables announced today the acquisition of three operational projects in Iowa: Hardin Hilltop Wind, Crosswind, and Top of Iowa Wind. Together, these assets represent 116 MW of installed capacity, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to expanding their U.S. presence in one of the most established wind markets in the country.

The portfolio includes Top of Iowa Wind, an 80 MW project in Worth County and the first wind farm developed in the area, which has been generating renewable energy since 2001. In Palo Alto and Clay Counties, the 21 MW Crosswind project has been operating since June 2007, adding further scale and diversification to the portfolio. Completing the group is Hardin Hilltop Wind, a 15 MW project in Greene County that has been producing power since May 2007.

This strategic portfolio acquisition of wind assets further strengthens Greenvolt’s and Bedrock’s joint venture goals to expand their development pipeline in the U.S. wind market, providing a robust platform for long‑term growth. At the same time, it demonstrates the partnership’s growing execution capabilities in the repower space, as these projects are reaching the end of their initial operational life. By integrating new turbine technologies and modernizing these long‑standing sites, it’s possible to significantly increase their efficiency, extend their lifespan, and unlock new value.

“We think the Top of Iowa Wind Farm is a great way to show how the first wind project built in Worth County can be repowered, revitalized, and continue providing benefits to the County for the next generation,” said Justin Fike, a Partner at Bedrock Renewables.

“We are hoping to quickly demonstrate to the projects’ landowners, their neighbors and the counties the projects are located - Greene, Palo Alto, Clay, and Worth - that we are here to build good projects that the communities can support, be proud of, and generate the local investment, tax base, and other ancillary benefits to these counties that wind projects can provide,” Fike goes on to say.

“This acquisition reinforces our U.S. portfolio with well established wind assets that are strong candidates for repowering,” says Weronika Nowak, Country Manager of Greenvolt Power in the United States. “Working alongside Bedrock Renewables, we aim to deploy optimized technology, improve production efficiency, and extend the operational life of these projects, delivering reliable clean energy and long-term value for the future generations of these counties.”

“As the former owners of Hardin Hilltop, we recall with many fond memories our time with the Hardin project. It was the first community-based wind project in the state of Iowa. We look forward to Bedrock’s professional management of the project in future years with anticipation of the good things they will do,” said Bill Sutton, one of the former owners of the Hardin Hilltop Wind project.

Investment in repowering not only increases the long‑term value, efficiency and resilience of projects, but it also delivers meaningful benefits to host communities; from sustained landowner income and stable tax revenues, to the continuous generation of sustainable energy that bolsters local economic vitality and contributes to the state’s clean energy goals.
