Wraptor Launches the World’s First and Only Purpose-Built Tapping Safety Blanket

Backed by a team with almost 200 combined years of experience in the waterworks industry, Wraptor launches as a company and opens orders for its flagship product

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Wraptor announced the commercial launch of the Wraptor Tapping Safety Blanket, the first and only engineered containment solution designed specifically for PVC pipe tapping operations. The company is now accepting orders at wraptorblanket.com.

"When I got that call, I couldn't accept any more that the answer was still 'throw a jacket over it.' So we went and built what should have existed years ago," said Wraptor founder and president, Brett Trout.

The risks of PVC pipe tapping are well-documented. 60% of contractors have witnessed or experienced a tapping-related failure firsthand. When a failure occurs, pressurized fragments can move at lethal velocity with no warning. Industry guidance from AWWA and Uni-Bell has long called for protective blankets during tapping procedures, but no commercial product existed to put that recommendation into practice. Until today.

For most of his 30-year career, Wraptor founder and president Brett Trout watched workers improvise during pipe taps, using whatever was nearby to shield themselves. Then two years ago, Trout received a call that made the risk impossible to ignore. A worker was tapping a PVC pipe when it violently exploded, driving the saddle into the left side of his face. He survived after weeks in the ICU, but his life will never be the same.

"I've known the people doing this work, walked job sites with them, and watched them tap PVC mains with nothing between them and a potential catastrophic failure," Trout said. "When I got that call, I couldn't accept any more that the answer was still 'throw a jacket over it.' So we went and built what should have existed years ago."

Developed in partnership with Rose-Hulman Ventures, the Wraptor Tapping Safety Blanket is engineered to the actual demands of the job. It fits 6" to 12" PVC pipe, installs in under 30 seconds without tools, and is built to withstand blast forces up to 800–900 PSI. The materials are industrial-grade throughout, including dual 18 oz. eTek vinyl-coated polyester, Cordura Nylon 1000D, and cam buckles rated to 3,000 lbs. It also supports Uni-Bell Tapping Safety Guidelines and OSHA-aligned hazard mitigation standards.

Independent field testing has been conducted across eight states — including Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Texas — to validate the product's performance, ease of use, and seamless fit into active field operators. Across all participants, the blanket was immediately understood and trusted.

“It’s one of those things where you go, ‘why didn’t this exist already?’” said a field operator in Florida. A field operations lead in Ohio added, “It fits right into what we’re already doing. You’re not changing the job, just making it safer.”

The Wraptor Tapping Safety Blanket is available now at wraptorblanket.com. Contractors, municipalities, safety departments, and distributors interested in pricing or distributor partnerships are encouraged to reach out directly through the website.
