Transect Launches Data Center Pulse Product to Identify Community Opposition Risks

AI-driven analysis of news, social media, regulations, and stakeholder activity helps developers navigate high-risk locations

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Transect today announced the launch of Data Center Pulse, an AI-powered solution designed to assess local community sentiment about data center development. The product enables developers to make more informed siting decisions by identifying areas with potential community support or opposition early in the development process.

“Data center developers are racing to secure viable sites and increasingly face strong community resistance. Data Center Pulse helps developers understand where opposition may exist and the drivers behind it.”

Data Center Pulse is the latest addition to Transect’s Pulse product portfolio, which also includes tools for analyzing sentiment related to solar, wind, and battery storage projects.

“Data center developers are racing to secure viable sites and increasingly face strong community resistance,” said Robin Laine, CEO of Transect. “Data Center Pulse helps developers understand where opposition may exist, the drivers behind it, and the specific individuals and groups who may be supporters or detractors.”

Key capabilities of Data Center Pulse include:

  • Moratorium and ordinance tracking — Identifies where data center development moratoriums or restrictive ordinances have been proposed or enacted, helping developers quickly screen out high-risk areas.
  • News analysis — Uses AI to analyze and summarize thousands of news articles and to identify key stakeholders. This provides critical context and helps developers understand the local narrative so they can design effective community engagement strategies.
  • Social media analysis — Aggregates and summarizes activity across X (formerly Twitter), Facebook Groups, and online petitions. Engagement metrics including likes, membership, and signatures help quantify the scale of community opposition or support. The data further enables developers to see what specific opposition or support points are being discussed, by whom, and whether those arguments are generally being embraced or rejected.

Data Center Pulse synthesizes these inputs into a sentiment score at the county or sub-county level, displayed through an intuitive, color-coded heatmap. This allows developers to rapidly identify potentially favorable versus high-risk areas for site selection.

This new product is part of a new add-on package from Transect specifically for data center siting that also includes fiber optic line locations and details about existing and planned data centers nationwide. These capabilities build on Transect’s core platform for site selection and assessment, including in-depth environmental analysis and federal, state, and local permitting information.
