“CCS was formed in response to the challenges property owners face when seeking compensation for casualty losses after federally declared disasters,” said Derek Myron, CCS’s founder and managing director. “Our affiliate company’s team was building expertise to help clients with unreimbursed claims from hurricanes. When the Palisades and Eaton wildfires occurred, we realized there was a tremendous void in accessible professional resources for property owners and founded CCS to fill the gaps.”
Under IRC §165, owners of property damaged in a federally declared disaster may qualify for meaningful income tax deductions based on unreimbursed casualty losses. Calculating the deduction is technically complex, and preparing a comprehensive, defensible reporting package is rigorous. CCS’s expert team thoughtfully guides clients through the process, from an initial consultation through delivering a comprehensive reporting package to the client’s CPA for filing.
Property owners affected by the Los Angeles Palisades and Eaton wildfires in 2025 may qualify to claim casualty loss deductions on their federal income tax returns using IRS Form 4684. Under IRC §165, the deduction is based on a property’s decrease in fair market value resulting from a federally declared disaster that is not covered by insurance reimbursements. Property may include the value of landscaping and personal assets, such as artwork.
CCS provides free consultations to assess property owners’ unique situations, coordinates appraisals, carefully documents casualty loss claims pursuant to tax law and provides comprehensive reporting packages to clients’ CPAs for tax filings.
“Our mission is to help clients navigate complex financial decisions with clarity, care and disciplined execution when property loss, insurance issues and tax complexity intersect,” noted Raleigh Watson, CCS’s head of strategic relationships. “Most importantly, we serve as trusted advisors for families navigating the total loss of or significant damage to their homes – one of the most difficult challenges imaginable.”
