SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MedImpact, the nation’s largest independent pharmacy benefits and health solutions company, today announced the launch of two pioneering solutions designed to help plan sponsors manage the skyrocketing cost of GLP-1 medications, while improving member access and care: GLP-1 Benefit 360 and GLP-1 Direct Fund.

At a time when demand for weight-loss medication is at an all-time high, the launch of these products marks another milestone in MedImpact’s strategy to utilize supply chain innovation to expand access and lower costs. MedImpact is bypassing traditional high-cost pharmacy models to provide predictable pricing and built-in clinical support. This innovative approach—similar to MedImpact's strategy with unbranded biosimilars—ensures that breakthrough therapies remain within reach for plan sponsors and their members without sacrificing clinical excellence.

The flagship offering, GLP-1 Benefit 360, is designed for plans seeking a high-value, covered benefit. By integrating MedImpact’s award-winning MedEmpower Fuel™ mobile app and GLP-1 Healthy Weight program, which pairs members with a specially trained registered dietitian, the program provides members the personalized nutrition and motivational support they need to achieve weight-related goals.

Key advantages of GLP-1 Benefit 360 include:

  • Price Predictability: Both plan and member spend is capped, with additional possible member savings through manufacturer copay cards.
  • Integrated Lifestyle Support: Because more than half of patients discontinue GLP-1 therapy within three months,* every member has the option to receive coaching and access to the MedEmpower Fuel app at no additional cost to the plan or member to support sustainable, long-term outcomes.
  • Seamless Member Experience: Members enjoy a seamless approval process aligned to FDA labels, the convenience of filling prescriptions at any network pharmacy, and a consistent price across all dose strengths.
  • Integration & Oversight: All claims are integrated within the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), offering a coordinated alternative to cash-pay or compounded products.

For healthcare payers looking to support member access outside of a traditional covered benefit, the GLP-1 Direct Fund provides a flexible alternative. This model allows plans to contribute a set dollar amount toward direct-to-consumer (DTC) pricing options for patients. This approach provides members with lower out-of-pocket costs than standard cash options while protecting the plan from unpredictable increases in costs.

“The legacy drug supply chain is unnecessarily complex and expensive and, with our GLP-1 and our unbranded biosimilar solutions, we’re taking on the status quo,” said Arpit Patel, MedImpact Senior Vice President of Trade Relations and Supply Chain. “We are reimagining the supply chain to deliver lower prices, greater access, and the advanced clinical support that employers and employees deserve.”
