Aviation Institute of Maintenance to Host Black History Month Celebration Honoring Chicago’s Aviation Legacy and Community Leaders

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Chicago campus will host a Black History Month celebration on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, honoring influential Black leaders who helped shape aviation history in Chicago and across the nation. The event will celebrate the legacy of the Chicago “DODO” Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen and honor Dr. Bill Winston as the award recipient and keynote speaker.

The program will bring together AIM students, faculty, community members, and local leaders to celebrate Chicago’s rich aviation history and support the next generation of aviation maintenance professionals. Reflecting the diversity of the city it serves, AIM Chicago is focused on expanding opportunities in aviation by connecting students to hands-on training, clear career pathways, and workforce development resources.

Confirmed speakers include Illinois State Representative LaShawn Ford and Dr. Bill Winston, a former military pilot who flew combat missions in the F-4 Phantom during the Vietnam War. Dr. Winston is also a two-time recipient of Squadron Top Gun Award.

“The history of aviation is deeply connected to the contributions of Black pioneers and leaders,” said Jason Pfaff, CEO of the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. “This celebration honors that legacy while highlighting what it enables today: education, career mobility, and a stronger workforce. Our students represent the future of aviation, and we are proud to help prepare them for the opportunities ahead.”

AIM Chicago’s hands-on training equips students with the skills needed for today’s in-demand aviation careers, helping build a stronger local talent pipeline and creating lasting pathways to opportunity and long-term success.
