TailorCare Releases Musculoskeletal Program Results from Medicare Advantage Member Experience and Clinical Outcomes Study

Findings show marked improvements in pain, function, and care confidence among older, chronically ill members engaged in personalized MSK care navigation

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TailorCare, a leading specialty value-based care organization focused on improving musculoskeletal (MSK) health, today shared preliminary clinical and member experience outcomes from an internal study of a Medicare Advantage (MA) population. The findings highlight evidence that TailorCare’s deeply personalized care navigation program combined with data analytics and AI can drive outcomes improvement among complex MA patients with a high burden of comorbidities.

TailorCare’s model pairs licensed physical therapist-led clinical navigation with structured intake assessments and evidence-based care pathways. The approach is designed to engage members earlier in their MSK journey, support conservative treatment options when appropriate, and reduce fragmentation across the care experience.

The analysis examined outcomes of 10,855 members who engaged in the TailorCare program between September 2024 and September 2025 for their MSK needs. On average, they were 71 years of age and 62% were female. Members had a high rate of comorbidities: 26% were obese, 10% had behavioral health needs, and 40% were at risk for falls.

With highly burdensome MSK symptoms, TailorCare members had a high degree of pain at the time of their clinical intake, measuring 6.74/10 on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale. They also had substantial functional impairment at intake with lower scores of 5.39/10 on the Patient Specific Function Scale.

Post intake, TailorCare navigated 82% of members to evidence-based, conservative care pathways. Importantly, nearly 90% of them remained on the same conservative care pathway throughout their program participation, indicating early identified paths were effective in addressing MSK members’ care journey needs.

At baseline, nearly 4,000 members reported very low levels of understanding their MSK condition and their treatment options, with an average score of 0.73 on an 11-point Likert scale (0–10). Only six weeks later, the average score increased to 7.27. This substantial improvement demonstrates that even patients with complex healthcare needs can improve their condition knowledge and understanding of care paths through TailorCare program support and care navigation.

Key TailorCare findings include:

  • 92% of engaged members reported improvement in pain or physical function following participation in TailorCare-guided care pathways
    • The average change in pain was a decrease of 3.68 points / 10
    • The average change in function was an improvement of 1.91 points / 10
  • Average improvements in pain and function exceeded established minimal clinically important difference (MCID) thresholds, indicating meaningful changes in member outcomes
  • High adherence to recommended conservative care pathways, reflecting sustained engagement and alignment with evidence-based treatment options
    • 82% of members were adherent to the evidence-based care recommendations provided by TailorCare
  • Patient satisfaction averaged 4.7 out of 5, with Net Promoter Scores consistently exceeding +80, even as overall volume of survey responses increased
  • Members with lower baseline health literacy demonstrated measurable improvement in the knowledge of their condition, treatment options, and how to self-manage, suggesting gains in care confidence and shared decision-making

"Real improvement happens when patients understand their condition and have a definable path to improvement. We see a direct correlation between continuous clinical support and patient engagement. When patients receive the time and care that is afforded by our skilled navigators rather than left to find their own way, outcomes improve significantly. Our ongoing research aims to validate that the patient experience and comprehension—not just a diagnosis—is just as vital to recovery as the physical treatment itself. While we are proud of our clinical outcomes, our true goal is to ensure every member feels informed and empowered on options to improve their quality of life. We aren't just treating conditions; we are building confidence, clarity, and connection," said Dr. Lucas Richie, MD, Chief Medical Officer at TailorCare.

The company plans to expand this analysis to a propensity-matched evaluation to investigate financial outcomes as part of a forthcoming TailorCare MSK Outcomes Study in 2026, which will further examine clinical outcomes, medical cost savings, care pathway engagement, and member experience.
