The initiative includes enhanced processes, new technology, refined logistics and a renewed emphasis on elevating the appearance, functionality and overall efficiency of the impound site.

By accelerating removals and reducing the backlog of derelict vehicles, the city aims to improve roadway safety, enhance neighborhood aesthetics, and support a cleaner, more welcoming urban environment. VMS’s national operating model and software systems will help provide clearer oversight of inventory, more timely processing of vehicles, and better communication with residents retrieving their property.

The initiative also aims to reduce the workload on both Louisville Metro Police Department and 911 dispatchers involving towing and impound operations, allowing officers and emergency personnel to focus on higher-priority calls and improve response times citywide. Modernized impound processes help reduce time spent on vehicle handoffs, documentation and coordination, contributing to a more efficient public safety ecosystem overall.
