New Lively data shows strong HSA balance growth as Americans face record healthcare premiums and out-of-pocket expenses

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lively, Inc., a top-rated health and lifestyle benefits platform* and #1 fastest growing HSA provider according to Devenir1, known for building the modern Health Savings Account (HSA), today revealed another record year for average HSA balances even as U.S. healthcare costs continue to climb.

Despite Rising Healthcare Costs, HSA Account Balances Hit Record High

As employers and households grapple with historic premium increases, higher deductibles, and rising out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, Americans are increasingly turning to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) as a critical financial tool to manage both near-term medical costs and long-term healthcare planning. Against this backdrop of persistent cost pressure and economic uncertainty, Lively’s data highlights how effective HSA engagement can help account holders build greater financial resilience.

HSAs offer a unique combination of tax-free saving, investing, and spending for qualified health expenses, making them one of the most powerful benefits available to workers enrolled in high-deductible health plans. Lively’s latest insights underscore the importance of choosing an HSA provider that prioritizes ease of use, built-in education, and accessible investing options—capabilities that are increasingly essential as healthcare affordability becomes a defining issue for employers and employees alike.

HSA-eligibility expansion from the OBBB went into effect January 1, 2026. Now, more individuals qualify for an HSA based on their health plan type. Those enrolled in a Bronze or Catastrophic Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plan meet the primary coverage requirement for HSA eligibility under the new law.

“HSAs have long been a strategy to help offset the high cost of healthcare,” said Alex Cyriac, co-founder and CEO of Lively. “With premiums and out-of-pocket costs continuing to rise, making healthcare more affordable and accessible is at the core of our mission at Lively. Continued HSA eligibility expansion to all Americans is the most direct way to reduce healthcare costs and help more families.”
