“With the help of volunteers, partners, students, and supporters, we were able to provide more healthy, chemical free foods during this trying year, which reflects the strength of our community and the urgency of our mission,” explained JK Community Farm Executive Director Samantha Kuhn. “Every pound we grew and donated represented a healthy meal for parents able to prepare fresh food for their children; a senior who no longer had to choose between groceries and medicine; and a student who tasted a fruit or vegetable they helped harvest.”

The farm’s impact in 2025 included:

  • 260,000 pounds donated, grown intentionally for families in need
  • More than one million servings of fresh, nutrient-rich meals
  • Over 7,000 volunteers, with 70% from corporate teams
  • 2,500 students participating in hands-on food education, field trips, and soil-to-plate learning
  • Fresh food picked up daily by partners such as Loudoun Hunger Relief, Food for Others, Arlington Food Assistance Center, and DC Central Kitchen
  • 1.5 million pounds donated since 2018

Kuhn added: “The produce we grow is more than food. It is health. It is dignity. It is a reminder that everyone deserves access to meals that nourish their bodies and their futures. As we prepare for the 2026 growing season, we are committed to growing more variety, more nutrients, more access, more education, and more opportunity because the need continues to grow, and so does our responsibility to meet it with abundance.”

For 2026, the farm expects to grow 280,000 pounds of food to meet the community’s needs and is seeking more volunteers—including corporate teams—to keep up with demand. In addition, work will start on the farm’s Food Education Center, which will balance the farm’s commitment to the land and hunger relief. The 7200 sq ft center will provide essential infrastructure like restrooms, cold storage, and shelter for the thousands of students and volunteers who come out each season; offer space for hands-on nutrition and agriculture education; provide a kitchen for flash freezing; and host mission-driven events like farm-to-table dinners and workshops.

The Food Education Center will complement and enhance the farm’s other educational elements, including the farm’s new Outdoor Food Learning Center. Designed for the farm’s field trip students and youth volunteers, the outdoor center includes an outside classroom and an educational space for sensory exploration that will help children learn, explore, and develop essential life skills through hands-on interaction with the farm’s natural environment. Every educational program is aligned with Virginia educational standards and designed to engage students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to transformative food education experiences. The JK Community Farm hosts thousands of students through its field trip program.
