Valvoline Inc. Survey Reveals What Drivers Will Face This Winter

More than 62% of drivers experienced a cold-weather breakdown last year, revealing need for preventive maintenance

LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Valvoline Inc. (NYSE: VVV), the quick, easy, trusted leader in preventive automotive maintenance today released findings of its 2025-2026 winter driving preparedness survey. The nationwide study of 1,000 U.S. drivers reveals that many Americans may be entering the cold-weather driving season less prepared than they think.

According to the survey, more than half 62% of drivers have experienced a cold-weather breakdown at least once, and 58% of drivers have lost control, slid, or spun out at least once while driving in winter conditions, highlighting why winter vehicle maintenance is so important.

“Our teams at Valvoline Instant Oil Change are here to help drivers prepare for winter,” said Chris Calabrese, Vice President, Operations. “With a quick visit, our trained technicians can advise of winter preventive maintenance services that can help drivers travel safely in the coming months.”

The survey also found that many drivers feel unprepared for emergencies: one in four say they could wait less than an hour for help if stranded in a snowstorm.

Winter Driving Tips to Stay Prepared

To help drivers feel ready for the season, Valvoline Inc. encourages:

  • Checking battery health and tire tread
  • Replacing worn wiper blades for better visibility
  • Keeping antifreeze and washer fluid topped off
  • Carrying an emergency kit with basics like a blanket, scraper, and jumper cables

These simple steps can help make winter driving safer and reduce the risk of cold-weather breakdowns.
