Bitwarden Leads FIDO Alliance Credential Exchange Standards for Passkey Portability on iOS 26

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bitwarden:

What: Apple iOS 26 introduces support for the FIDO Alliance Credential Exchange standards that enables secure, end-to-end encrypted transfers of passkeys, passwords, and other credentials across platforms and apps. Bitwarden is among the first credential managers on iOS 26 to implement the Credential Exchange standards, helping lead passkey and password portability with a secure, standardized way for users to move credentials between Apple Passwords, Bitwarden, and other compatible services.

Why: The FIDO Alliance standards deliver credential portability across platforms while preserving encryption, security, and interoperability. With iOS 26, users can securely transfer passkeys and passwords into or out of Bitwarden (e.g., migrating credentials from Apple Passwords into Bitwarden or vice versa), expanding flexibility for end users and accelerating adoption of modern authentication methods.

Who: Bitwarden leads support for the Credential Exchange standards on iOS 26, enabling users with a standards-based, secure way to transfer passkeys and passwords across apps and platforms. The protocol was developed with the FIDO Alliance and major industry players including Apple, Google, and Microsoft, reinforcing cross-platform compatibility and user choice.

When: Apple iOS 26 releases today, September 15, 2025. Bitwarden support for passkey portability will be available this week, enabling users to begin transferring passkeys and passwords shortly after updating to iOS 26.
