GE Appliances Honored With Reshoring Award for Leadership and Investment in U.S. Manufacturing

Award recognizes GE Appliances’ multi-billion reshoring push and continued investment in its 11 manufacturing plants and microfactories

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Appliances, a Haier company, today announced it has earned the prestigious National Metalworking Reshoring Award, recognizing the company’s industry-leading commitment to revitalizing U.S. manufacturing and supply chains. In August, GE Appliances announced investment of $3 billion over the next five years to expand domestic production across its network of 11 U.S. plants and microfactories. Since 2016, the company has committed $6.5 billion to American manufacturing, fueling product innovation, plant modernization, and supplier growth.

“This award is proof that when you invest in American workers and factories, you strengthen supply chains and fuel the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing,” said Bill Good, Vice President of Supply Chain at GE Appliances. “It’s a testament to our 15,500 employees nationwide who help show the world that American manufacturing has a bold future.”

GE Appliances continues leading the appliance sector in American manufacturing investments. Guided by its “Zero Distance” strategy – building closer to the customers and consumers it serves – GE Appliances contributes more than $30 billion annually to the U.S. economy and supports over 113,000 American jobs across its operations, suppliers, and logistics network.

"GE Appliances’ long-time commitment to reshoring embodies the principle that local production strengthens competitiveness, secures supply chains, and uplifts communities,” said Harry Moser, founder and president of the Reshoring Initiative®. “Their sustained investment and willingness to reshore complex appliance lines underscore how reshoring, when done right, lowers total cost of ownership, improves quality, and fosters innovation."

Beyond Kentucky, the company’s latest $3 billion, five-year investment accelerates domestic production across multiple states. Highlights include:

  • Georgia: Relocating gas-range production from Mexico to LaFayette.
  • Alabama: Moving six refrigerator models from China to its Decatur facility.
  • South Carolina: Doubling water-heater production capacity and employment by bringing electric and hybrid units back from overseas.
  • Tennessee: Expanding air-conditioning manufacturing with new 2-ton Vertical Zoneline® models.

About The Reshoring Initiative®

Founded in 2010, the Reshoring Initiative’s mission is to eliminate our $1.2 trillion goods trade deficit and increase U.S. manufacturing by 40%. The Initiative accelerates reshoring by documenting the trend and assisting companies in accurately assessing their total cost of offshoring. The Initiative shifts collective thinking from "offshoring is cheaper" to "local reduces the total cost of ownership" through advocacy and by providing tools and support. Primarily as a result of more reshoring and less offshoring, manufacturing employment has risen over the last 14 years, the best record in the last 45 years.
