NaphCare Launches Specialized EHR Solution for Georgia Department of Corrections

NaphCare and the Georgia Department of Corrections successfully implemented TechCare 5.0 EHR to serve incarcerated populations and enhance patient care in one of the top five largest state prison systems in the country.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading correctional healthcare company, NaphCare, Inc., today announced the successful implementation of TechCare, NaphCare’s innovative electronic health record (EHR) system, across the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC). The implementation launched statewide in 62 GDC facilities, with all sites going live simultaneously. With TechCare, GDC will manage health records for over 41,000 patients and streamline healthcare workflows, improve documentation and reporting, and enable health staff to dedicate more time to direct patient care.

“This represents a significant milestone for NaphCare – completing the transition to TechCare for one of the largest state prison systems in the U.S. in only nine months,” said Charlie Barranco, Chief Information Officer at NaphCare. “We’re proud to partner with the Georgia Department of Corrections, and this achievement is a testament to the GDC's unwavering commitment to patient care. By fully integrating TechCare into its healthcare operations, the GDC’s healthcare service providers are empowered with the tools they need to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time delivering high-quality, timely care to patients.”

"The seamless transition for such a large system was no small task. Our partners at GDC and the health team were essential to the success of the implementation," said Ashley Atkinson, EHR Product Manager for NaphCare. "We worked closely with our partners to deliver focused training to more than 1,700 health staff. This peer-to-peer training ensures the GDC team can confidently use TechCare on day one of go live and in their day-to-day patient interactions going forward."

Originally launched in 2004, TechCare was the industry’s first EHR system designed specifically for correctional settings. As a complete, whole person healthcare operating system, TechCare seamlessly aligns clinical protocols with patient care needs while maintaining compliance with national healthcare standards. Continuously evolving to meet the unique and growing demands of the correctional healthcare landscape, TechCare now features advanced tools such as the MyCare Patient Portal and integrated Power BI Dashboards – driving greater transparency, enhancing patient engagement, and delivering actionable insights for improved patient outcomes.

Currently, TechCare supports 195 local and state correctional facilities across the country, managing approximately 245,000 active patient records, every day. By improving interoperability and reducing administrative burden, the system enables correctional leaders to deliver more efficient, effective care.
