Former NDTX United States Attorney to establish new practice group at growing Dallas-Fort Worth litigation boutique

FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Richard B. Roper joined DFW-based Vartabedian Hester & Haynes LLP, where he will lead the law firm’s new white collar and investigations practice.

Roper served as United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas from 2004-2008 before spending 17 years at Holland & Knight (previously Thompson & Knight).

During his career, Roper has conducted more than 150 jury trials involving securities, immigration, tax, banking and health care fraud allegations, as well charges of international terrorism financing, narcotics, human trafficking and public corruption. As U.S. Attorney, he led an office of more than 100 prosecutors, and served on six Attorney General Advisory Committees, and was Co-Chair of the Department of Justice’s Internet Pharmacy Working Group.

Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Roper began his career as an Assistant District Attorney for Tarrant County after earning his law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1982.

He serves as a member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee for Texas, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys that reviews, interviews and makes recommendations on federal judicial and U.S Attorney candidates. He has also served on the board of directors for the National Association of Former United States Attorneys and the North Texas Crime Commission.

Mr. Roper is annually recognized in the area of white-collar criminal defense by legal publications that include Chambers USA (Texas, Band 1), the Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers, and D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas.
