Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s 1GT Leads Series E Investment in Insight M

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) announced today that the 1GT climate private equity strategy (1GT) invested $30 million to lead a growth equity funding round in Insight M, a leader in cost-effective methane management solutions for the energy sector. The initial close includes participation from existing investors DCVC, Climate Investment and Energy Innovation Capital. Using proprietary sensors mounted on aircraft, Insight M collects and provides high-resolution data on fugitive methane emissions to its customers to help them identify, quantify, and repair emitting energy infrastructure.

Insight M serves energy operators in every producing region in the United States and in many regions globally. Insight M’s industry-leading methane emissions dataset is leveraged by the industry to provide some of the most reliable insights, benchmarks and rankings on the market today.

Vikram Raju, MSIM’s Head of Climate Private Equity Investing and 1GT, said: “Fugitive methane emissions are profoundly consequential from an environmental, operational, and financial perspective. We believe that Insight M offers a highly compelling solution to help the industry detect and repair such emission events in a timely and cost-effective manner, leveraging its proprietary detection technology and distinctive data aggregation capabilities. “This investment supports 1GT’s ongoing mission to provide capital at the critical growth stage to companies whose products and services deliver a transformational climate impact.”

Large infrastructure operators are responsible for a high proportion of preventable methane emissions, which according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have 29.8 times the global warming potential as carbon dioxide over a 100-year time frame (GWP 100, IPCC AR6). Detecting fugitive methane emissions is a critical first step in helping operators reduce their methane emissions, which have both an environmental and financial cost. Insight M’s aerial modality offers a commercially compelling balance between accuracy and cost-competitiveness. Since inception, the company has enabled the avoidance of more than 110 million metric tons of CO2e (GWP100), equivalent to planting 1.9 billion urban trees and allowing them to grow for 10 years.

“We believe effective methane management means advancing operational success, public trust, and environmental stewardship—together,” said David Bercovich, Insight M CEO. “This funding round will accelerate our efforts to deploy pragmatic and complete solutions to energy operators around the world, helping them increase profits while reducing emissions.”
