$1.2 Million in Scholarships to Be Awarded by Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--$1.2 million in college and vocational/training program scholarships will be awarded this year by the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund to high school seniors. The Fund, which first distributed awards in 2000, is in its 25th year of providing scholarships for the children of Teamster members across the U.S. and Canada.

“We are pleased to continue helping Teamster families defray the costs of their children’s higher education,” said James P. Hoffa, Teamster General President Emeritus and board member of the Fund. “Moving on to college or trade school programs is a big step for many students and we are committed to assisting Teamster families who are taking this on. Students today require support from as many financial resources as possible, and we are proud to provide it through hundreds of scholarships this year.”

The Fund has distributed thousands of scholarships throughout its 25 years. Recently, a $10,000 scholarship recipient about to graduate from Fordham University wrote about his appreciation. “I am writing to express my deep gratitude for the support your scholarship has provided me…Having the measure of financial security that the award helped provide made (my college years) not only less stressful, but also much more meaningful as a result.”

Another recipient commented on how she had, “…worked to maintain a strong academic record while continuing to pursue my goal of becoming an optometrist. Your investment in my education has inspired me to keep pushing forward and to one day give back to future students just as you have done for me.”

The Fund will be announcing this year’s recipients in the next couple of months and payments will be sent out in August in advance of the school year.
