William J. Burns Joins Evercore as Senior Advisor

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Evercore (NYSE: EVR) announced today that William J. Burns will join the firm in June as senior advisor for global affairs, based in Washington, D.C.

Bill Burns has one of the most distinguished foreign policy and diplomatic records in American history, serving six presidents of both parties. Most recently, he served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and a member of President Biden’s Cabinet, where he played a critical role in dealing with a range of global challenges, from Europe to the Middle East and Asia.

Previously, Burns served for three and a half decades as a career diplomat, including as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Ambassador to Russia and Jordan, among other senior roles.

In addition to his nearly four decades of public service, Burns served from 2015 to 2021 as the President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. During those years, he wrote the bestselling book The Back Channel: A Memoir of American Diplomacy and the Case for Its Renewal. He also served on a number of corporate and advisory boards in the private sector. Burns earned a bachelor’s from LaSalle University and master’s and doctoral degrees from Oxford University, where he studied as a Marshall Scholar.
