Elastic Announces General Availability of Elastic Distributions of OpenTelemetry

SREs and developers now have access to a production-ready OTel ecosystem

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Elastic (NYSE: ESTC), the Search AI Company, announced the general availability of Elastic Distributions of OpenTelemetry (EDOT), a fully open distribution of the OpenTelemetry (OTel) collector and software development kits (SDKs) for code instrumentation. EDOT provides site reliability engineers (SREs) and developers with a stable, production-tested OTel ecosystem backed by enterprise-grade support to provide faster, more reliable infrastructure and application monitoring.

According to EMA Research1, over 73% of IT decision-makers and practitioners are currently using OpenTelemetry or plan to implement OpenTelemetry in their environment, but cite a lack of vendor or community support as a top barrier to OpenTelemetry adoption. To address this, EDOT users receive production-ready OTel with expert-backed support. They also benefit by avoiding vendor lock-in and proprietary add-ons, all without schema conversion.

“Enterprises adopting OpenTelemetry often struggle with unreliable support, leading to operational risks and downtime and increased troubleshooting efforts,” said Santosh Krishnan, general manager of Observability and Security at Elastic. “EDOT delivers enterprise-grade support backed by OpenTelemetry experts, helping organizations confidently adopt and scale OpenTelemetry without operational disruptions or added maintenance burden.”

EDOT is available to all Elastic customers. Some available components include EDOT Java and EDOT Python. Read the Elastic blog for a full list of EDOT components that are now generally available.
