Citizens Financial Group Announces Executive Committee Appointments

Bank names Michelle Moosally as General Counsel and Matt Boss as Head of Consumer

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Citizens Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: CFG) today announced appointments to the company’s Executive Committee that will help further accelerate its strategic growth agenda.

  • Michelle Moosally was named General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, effective May 15. Moosally, who will report to Chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun, will lead the company’s legal department, with responsibility including corporate governance, litigation and employment, client advisory services, regulatory relations and government relations.
  • Matt Boss was named Head of Consumer Banking, effective May 5. He will be charged with further progressing the company’s ambitious Consumer growth agenda, overseeing Retail Banking & Distribution, Deposits, Consumer Lending, Mortgage, Business Banking, and omnichannel customer engagement, including the bank’s contact center. Boss will report to Brendan Coughlin, who will become Vice Chair-Consumer, Private Banking & Wealth. Boss’s addition will ensure continued strong leadership of consumer banking, while providing Coughlin with more leverage to focus on growing Citizens’ Private Bank and Wealth Management businesses and taking on oversight of its Enterprise Marketing and Data & Analytics functions.

Moosally has nearly 25 years of legal experience at large financial institutions and leading law firms. She most recently served as Global Head, Regulatory Relations at Wells Fargo where she led a large team overseeing its enterprise-wide regulatory matters. Previously, she worked at Santander, where she served as General Counsel of Corporate & Investment Banking and Commercial Banking. Prior to that, she served in increasingly responsible roles at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. and Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft LLP.

“Michelle brings tremendous experience and deep expertise in helping large financial services companies navigate change and deliver growth,” said Van Saun. “Her sharp insights will help us drive our ambitious agenda while providing strong and effective leadership of our Legal organization.”

Boss most recently served as Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Consumer Banking at TD, where he was responsible for its more than 1,100 branches, contact centers, digital, retail operations, U.S. Wealth, and TD Auto Finance, and all consumer product teams, including deposit products, credit cards and unsecured lending and residential lending. Previously, he was responsible for Consumer Products at TD.

“Matt is a future-focused leader with a demonstrated track record of driving strong results in the face of a rapidly evolving competitive landscape,” said Coughlin. “As we build off of the business’s transformed foundation since our IPO, his experience and customer centricity make him the right leader to take the Consumer business to the next level.”
