Winston & Strawn Welcomes Former U.S. Attorney Damien Diggs to Its Government Investigations, Enforcement and Compliance Practice in Dallas

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that Damien Diggs, former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, has joined the firm’s Litigation Department as a partner in its Dallas office and a member of its Government Investigations, Enforcement, and Compliance Practice. With 18 years of experience in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and Texas, Damien brings a wealth of experience and an impressive record in all stages of criminal, civil, and appellate matters.

As U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, Damien was the presidentially appointed and Senate-confirmed chief federal law enforcement officer for a region covering 43 counties in northeast and southeast Texas where he was instrumental in setting priorities on reducing violent crime, dismantling international drug trafficking organizations, prosecuting fraud matters, and disrupting networks of cyber criminals. He also led high-profile civil cases in the pharmaceutical, financial services, real estate, and healthcare industries, resolving claims in excess of $250 million.

“We are delighted to welcome Damien to Winston,” said Steve D’Amore, Chairman of Winston & Strawn. “Damien’s extensive experience as a federal prosecutor working on significant criminal, civil, and appellate matters will further strengthen our world-class litigation team. His collaborative leadership style is a perfect fit at Winston.”

“Damien understands the inner workings of the Department of Justice and the country’s criminal justice system,” said Litigation Department Co-Chairs Tom Melsheimer and Linda Coberly. “His unique experience as both a U.S. Attorney and former Assistant U.S. Attorney will be an important resource for our corporate and business clients, especially in the areas of regulatory compliance, internal investigations, and government investigations.”

Prior to his role as U.S. Attorney, Damien was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, where he held leadership roles as the office’s Deputy Chief of Violent Crimes, Project Safe Neighborhoods Coordinator, and District Election Officer. He represented the United States in proceedings and trials involving fraud, election crimes, and violent crimes. Before that, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

“I’m beyond thrilled to join Winston in its Dallas office and look forward to leveraging my government experience and relationships to help our clients navigate enforcement actions and investigations,” said Damien. “I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues in Dallas and joining forces with the firm’s global litigation practice to serve our clients across multiple industries.”

Damien has deep experience with the False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 and has extensive experience working on international matters in Central and South America, which will be valuable for the firm’s clients operating in those regions.

While a U.S. Attorney, Damien was an active member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Subcommittees on White Collar Crime, Terrorism/National Security, Cybercrime & Intellectual Property, and Violent Crime. He is currently a member of the National Association of Former United States Attorneys.
