More Than 1,400 Midlands Addresses Gain Access to Comporium’s Multi-Gig Broadband Network

1,442 Addresses West of Swansea Connected with $7.3 Million Investment

ROCK HILL, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--More than 1,400 homes and businesses in Lexington and Aiken Counties have gained access to Comporium's fiber-based multi-Gigabit internet service. Over the past few months Comporium placed nearly 156 miles of fiber-optic network to reach rural addresses near Swansea, Pelion and Thor in Lexington County and Perry in Aiken County. These projects, requiring almost $7.3 million of investment to extend the company’s fiber-optic network, provide customers with access to internet speeds of up to 5 Gigabits per second (Gbps) and will improve the quality of life significantly in rural areas.

Comporium combined its own private investment and state-issued funds from the American Rescue Plan Act made possible by funding from the South Carolina Broadband Office. This joint funding approach ensures that the company reaches the maximum number of addresses possible with its state-of-the-art network. Comporium continues to work with state and federal agencies to find ways to extend or upgrade service to more rural customers.

“We are excited to continue to reach more of South Carolina’s rural residents with our state-of-the-art fiber network,” stated Shaun Barnes, Comporium’s vice president of corporate communications and business development. “Projects like these are only possible because of our ongoing partnership with the South Carolina Broadband Office. Customers served by this new network will be able to access speeds up to 5 Gbps from day one and we have even faster speeds planned in the next few months.”

This project extended multi-Gigabit internet to many addresses along the following roads:

  • Burns Dr.
  • Cliff Rd.
  • Nantucket Rd.
  • Terry Rd.
  • Track Rd.
  • Cassidy Rd.
  • Fulmer Rd.
  • Sharon Church Rd.
  • Thor Rd.
  • W E Jeffcoat Rd
  • Cedar Creek Rd.
  • Pine St.
  • Shumpert Mill Rd.
  • Tindal Rd.

In coordination with the towns of Swansea and Pelion, Comporium added public wi-fi hotspots to two local parks as a part of this project. Public wi-fi was added to L. O. Rast Park in Swansea in November. The company is working with the town of Pelion to add wi-fi to its Pelion Walking Park.

Residents and businesses in these areas of Lexington and Aiken Counties may place an order and schedule installation appointments through Comporium’s website at www.comporium.com.
