Corgan Expands “The Shop” to Drive Design Innovation and Honor a Heritage of Craftsmanship

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global architecture and design firm Corgan is proud to announce the expansion of The Shop, marking a transformative step in the firm’s approach to integrating physical model-making, craftsmanship, and digital fabrication in the design process. The new expanded facility reflects Corgan’s ongoing commitment to high design, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. The Shop features state-of-the-art tools including laser cutters, advanced 3D printers, and professional woodworking equipment, encouraging architects to get hands-on with their designs.

Corgan’s original model shop was located at the firm’s headquarters in downtown Dallas’ historic West End, but there has been a growing investment in tools and resources that elevate design, resulting in an increased need for space. The Shop offers 3,000 square feet of space to create scaled models, life-sized mock-ups, and even full-scale installations to support every stage of the design process.

“As a forward-thinking design firm, we’re constantly evolving and anticipating what is next,” said Dylan Wells, Shop Director. “The Shop brings designs to life by merging innovative technologies with traditional craftmanship, supporting Corgan’s reputation for agility.”

Unlike the typical approach of outsourcing model production, Corgan’s shop operates as a dynamic, integral part of its design studios, supporting a firm-wide culture of creation that emphasizes collaboration and innovation. Located in a renovated historic warehouse building within walking distance of the firm’s headquarters, The Shop is an easily accessible creative hub for Corgan’s architects, designers and clients.

“In an era defined by digital tools and AI, we firmly believe in the power of physical model-making,” says Wells. “The tactile experience of interacting with a tangible model resonates deeply with our clients, architects, and designers.”

While technological advances in the architecture and design fields abound, the firm has found that clients are very interested — and excited — when offered the opportunity to experience a building in the form of a physical model. This expansion of The Shop is part of Corgan’s broader strategy to enhance its creative capabilities while anticipating industry shifts and client needs.

The firm provides full architectural design services and has developed a reputation for innovative, high design and thoughtful, data-driven design solutions. Corgan serves clients in aviation, data centers, education, health, mixed-use, multifamily, office, and workplace sectors.

In 2024, Corgan ranked No. 6 in Interior Design’s giants of design overall, and its sectors rank No. 2 in transportation, No. 3 for education, No. 7 for sustainability, No. 7 for office design, and No.18 for healthcare and was recently named the 2024 “Firm of the Year” by the American Society of Interior Designers. Known for the research and insights that inform design, Corgan is consistently ranked in the top five architecture firms, ranking No.1 in data centers and No. 4 overall firm in the U.S. by Building Design + Construction.
