Monterey Peninsula College Awarded American Water Charitable Foundation STEM Education Grant

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) was awarded a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Education grant. MPC will use the funds to provide a series of hands-on STEM work-based learning projects involving over 75 students and includes an engineering project competition with other local colleges.

“We really appreciate the partnership with the American Water Charitable Foundation and California American Water for their commitment to MPC students,” said Beccie Michael, MPC Foundation Executive Director. “Funds provided by the Foundation will create valuable opportunities for our students as they work towards earning STEM degrees and ultimately becoming STEM professionals. This grant is a prime example of working together to ensure a well-educated, well-prepared future workforce to meet our community’s needs.”

Monterey Peninsula College, part of California's public community college system, is an open-access institution committed to fostering student learning and success by providing excellence in instructional programs, facilities, and services to support the goals of students pursuing transfer, career, basic skills, and lifelong learning opportunities. The STEM Education grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. This opportunity provides STEM-focused curricular and extracurricular programs for underserved students.
