AHF Applauds Biden Administration Medicare Drug Price Negotiations

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world’s largest HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, released the following statement in response to news the Biden Administration successfully has completed Medicare negotiations with drugmakers and secured lower prices on 10 prescription drugs for Americans:

“This is a long time coming and something we have advocated for years,” said Michael Weinstein, AHF president and cofounder. “The U.S. subsidizes the lower cost of prescription drugs in other countries because our government has been unable to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies until Congress passed – and the president signed – the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. We applaud the Biden Administration for following through on its promise to make access to lifesaving medications more affordable, especially for America’s seniors.”

Over the years, AHF has sponsored ballot measures promoting drug price negotiation in California and Ohio. While the drug industry spent millions opposing those ballot measures which, unfortunately, lost at the polls, they laid the groundwork for Thursday’s pivotal development.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world’s largest HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, provides cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to more than 2 million individuals across 47 countries, including the U.S. and in Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region, and Eastern Europe.
