U. S. Steel Named a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Company by the Minnesota National Guard

Company committed to helping military employees succeed

VIRGINIA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) (“U. S. Steel”) has been named a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company by the Minnesota National Guard, a designation that illustrates U. S. Steel’s continued commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive working environment for veterans. U. S. Steel Minnesota Ore Operations hosted an official proclamation event on June 27, commemorating this accomplishment.

Established to sustain a comprehensive community and corporate support network that connects and coordinates agencies, organizations, and other resources, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon helps meet the needs of Minnesota's military veterans, service members, and families from all military branches. Becoming an official Beyond the Yellow Ribbon certified business sends a message to current and prospective employees, and the community, that U. S. Steel has the support structure to enable successful transitions into the workplace for service members and those employees affected by military service. In 2023, 12 percent of new hires at U. S. Steel were veterans.

“Becoming a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company illustrates our continued commitment to our military veterans and their families,” said Travis Kolari, Head of Operations, Minnesota Ore Operations Processing for U. S. Steel. “We want all our employees, current and prospective, to know that we are striving every day to provide the best possible workplace, one that prioritizes inclusion and teamwork for every single team member.”

Through its Employee Resource Groups, or ERGs, U. S. Steel has created workplaces where employees feel included and valued. The SERVE ERG is dedicated to supporting employees who are either active reservists or veterans of our nation’s armed forces.

Jason Taliaferro, SERVE ERG President and U. S. Steel Director of Sales, supported the Minnesota Ore SERVE chapter efforts to earn the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon distinction. “As a 23-year veteran, I am extremely thankful for the value U. S. Steel puts on military service and proud of our company’s dedication to supporting the veteran community,” said Taliaferro. “U. S. Steel is a place where service members can thrive and the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon honor is proof.”

“This ERG provides valuable, ongoing assistance to service members and their families,” said Mona Dine, Chief Diversity Officer for U. S. Steel. “Their work on behalf of our service members, and our commitment to an inclusive workplace, were crucial in receiving the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon distinction.”
