Missouri Approves Learning A-Z® Foundation Skills Solution for State-Wide Use

Award-winning, Science of Reading-aligned Foundations A-Z® approved as state supplemental program

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Learning A-Z, a Cambium Learning Group brand, announced today that its award-winning literacy solution, Foundations A-Z, has been approved through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) Read, Lead, Exceed initiative as an evidenced-based, supplemental K-5 instructional material.

Rather than taking a "one-size-fits-all" approach, Foundations A-Z uses the latest research-backed best practices to enable all teachers of all skill and experience levels to cultivate foundational reading proficiency among K-5 students.

Foundations A-Z's explicit lesson plans and digitally assignable student activities align with ongoing Science of Reading (SoR) research, following a systematic scope and sequence to provide cumulative instruction. The daily lessons adhere to a gradual release model, offering built-in digital and printable resources for whole-class, small-group and independent practice that reinforce core foundational reading skills.

"Our team at Learning A-Z is dedicated to developing literacy solutions firmly grounded in SoR and proven instructional practices," said Aaron Ingold, president of Learning A-Z. "DESE’s recent approval of Foundations A-Z validates our research-driven approach and provides educators with additional high-quality resources to deliver systematic reading instruction. We remain committed to empowering teachers with effective tools that move the needle on student literacy and ensure all children have the opportunity to become proficient, successful readers."

Today’s announcement follows Foundations A-Z receiving the 2024 SIIA CODiE Award for best Science of Reading / Foundational skills solution and an “All Green” rating from EdReports. This ranking recognizes curricula that deliver standards-aligned, high-quality materials that apply research-based best practices for foundational skills instruction.
