Fort Johnson Residents Praise On-Base Military Housing Provider for Storm Preparation and Community Contributions

Corvias’ Commitment to Care and Service Recognized

FORT JOHNSON, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The local Corvias Property Management team continues to demonstrate exemplary care for the community they serve, both on and off post. From severe winter storm response to volunteering at a local children’s non-profit to supporting military families, this team moves forward with a heart to serve.

Supporting children at Louisiana Lions Camp 
A team of nine Corvias employees spent nearly 70 hours over two Saturdays making repairs at the Louisiana Lions Camp. Repairs included replacing doors, painting the kitchen and cafeteria, and pressure washing the building to help prepare for the camp’s summer season. The camp caters to children with respiratory disorders, special needs, juvenile diabetes, and childhood cancer.

“When we saw the Louisiana Lions Camp phrase, ‘Together, we build a better us,’ it really resonated. Their sense of mission to build hope together, in community, is a match for us. Supporting literacy at Pickering Elementary School 
The team recently partnered with Pickering Elementary School to support a pop-up literacy night at the Palmetto Terrace Community Center. Corvias team members worked with school liaison officer Tiffany Koch to coordinate event logistics.

“We look forward to partnering with Fort Johnson and Corvias again in the future and deeply appreciate the collaborative spirit that we have for educating our students and their families,” said Dana Donaldson, Principal of Pickering Elementary School, in a letter to Fort Johnson leadership. She added, “Together we are creating a foundation for lifelong learning, and it is encouraging to witness the positive outcomes that result from our shared commitment to education.”

Honoring Medal of Honor recipients with street names 
A recent event commemorated three of Fort Johnson’s 10 Louisiana Medal of Honor recipients, Pfc. James H. Diamond, Pfc. Milton Arthur Lee, and Cpl. Hampton M. Roach. Fort Johnson honored these individuals by renaming three neighborhood streets on base with their names. Mark S. Leslie, director of plans, training, and mobilization and security at Fort Johnson recognized the Corvias team for ensuring timely installation of the new street signs with the U.S. Army Medal of Honor marker.

“Corvias played a huge part in getting the Medal of Honor emblazoned on those signs to honor those American Heroes and educate the community,” Leslie said.

Protecting against winter storms 
In early 2024, Winter Storm Indigo caused temperatures to drastically drop. Nationally, the storm’s Arctic chills blasted huge swaths of the United States, causing car crashes, downed trees, and at least 40 deaths. Locally, Corvias’ property management team swung into action to prepare the Fort Johnson community.

Before the storm, the Corvias team sent severe weather alerts, provided residents with emergency contacts, and shared safety tips with residents. Resulting freezing temperatures caused power outages and frozen pipes, and a round-the-clock response was mobilized to mend issues like damaged pipes and heating systems.

“During the near record cold temperatures, these dedicated teams performed with professionalism, expertise, and selflessness. They worked around the clock to restore the electrical distribution and facility systems in a safe and timely manner, while minimizing infrastructure damages,” said Nathan Jernigan, Fort Johnson director of public works.

Promoting military spouse-owned businesses 
The Corvias team saw an opportunity to use its events to feature and amplify small businesses owned by spouses of service members based at Fort Johnson. Specifically, the Corvias Leasing Office team combined its property management open house and home tour with a unique military spouse-owned business market in early 2024. Attendees could browse military spouses’ wares, like embroidery and hair products, and tour a variety of homes and floorplans.

“They sacrifice so much,” said Michelle Land, a Corvias leasing consultant. “For this event in particular, we strengthened our relationship with the spouses and were happy to meet their customers too. Many of the people who came in for the market had not toured a home on Fort Johnson, nor seen a renovated home.”

Several military spouses participated in the event to showcase their businesses and make meaningful connections with other military families. Another home tour and market event took place on April 27, 2024.

Receiving recognition with the 2023 SatisFacts Resident Satisfaction Award
