Ross Buchmueller appointed to the USAA Board of Directors

Founder of PURE Insurance and son of Air Force veteran joined in April

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--USAA announced today that Ross Buchmueller has been appointed to serve on the USAA Board of Directors. Buchmueller brings deep expertise in the insurance industry and, as the son of an Air Force veteran, unique insight into the needs of the military community and their families.

Appointed by the USAA Board of Directors, Buchmueller has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, which includes founding PURE Insurance, a specialty firm focused on protecting high-value assets. Like USAA, PURE is a values-based company, focused on doing right by its now-113,000 member-owners. Prior to founding PURE, Buchmueller led AIG’s private client group, building it into one of the company’s fastest growing divisions. He began his career as an underwriter at Chubb before earning leadership roles, including head of marketing and sales for personal insurance.

“Ross’ industry and military acumen will serve USAA’s members well, blending proven business strategies with an ability to innovate to meet the changing needs of the military community and their families,” said USAA Board Chairman Vice Adm. James M. Zortman, USN (ret.). “He is an exceptional and visionary leader, with expertise that will help shape how we provide value to our members and continue USAA’s 102-year legacy of service.”

"I’m a proud son of an Air Force father, and USAA is a trusted partner to my family and so many others who've worn the uniform,” Buchmueller said. “I’ve always admired USAA’s member-first approach, so it’s truly an honor to join the board and play a role in delivering on the mission.”
