Guzman Energy Partners with Holy Cross Energy for Power Generated by Bronco Plains II Energy Center

Wholesale power provider and Colorado electric cooperative to offtake 100% of renewable power generated by Bronco Plains II Energy Center, a 200 MW wind facility in eastern Colorado

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Guzman Energy and Holy Cross Energy (HCE) have entered a power offtake sharing agreement that delivers renewable energy generated by the Bronco Plains II Energy Center to both organizations’ respective power portfolios.

Bronco Plains II Energy Center, located in Kit Carson County on Colorado’s eastern plains, is a 200 MW wind facility estimated to generate power for up to 40,000 households annually. Developed, operated, and owned by NextEra Energy Resources, the site began producing power from 72 wind turbines in late 2023. During winter months, 150 MW of the energy center’s output will go to HCE and 50 MW will go to Guzman Energy. In the summer months, HCE and Guzman Energy will each offtake 100 MW. The respective organizations will own the associated renewable attributes, including renewable energy credits (RECs), generated by Bronco Plains II Energy Center.

“The addition of energy generated by Bronco Plains II Energy Center to the Guzman power supply portfolio is a valuable contributor to providing our wholesale customers with price certainty as well as the option to source clean, renewable energy,” said Robin Lunt, Chief Commercial Officer of Guzman Energy.

Energy produced by Bronco Plains II Energy Center contributes to HCE’s 100x30 goal of providing its members with 100% clean energy by 2030. HCE anticipates achieving over 90% clean energy by the end of 2025.

“We are grateful for our partnership with Guzman, which is expanded through the Bronco Plains II Energy Center. This partnership allowed us to provide additional low-cost renewable energy to the communities we serve, helping us to meet our clean energy goals,” said Sam Whelan, Vice President of Finance for HCE.

Guzman Energy became a wholesale power partner of HCE in 2019. Through the partnership HCE has been able to double the amount of clean energy in its portfolio while avoiding more than $30 million in power supply costs over the last 5 years.
