ComEd Joins Village of University Park, Will County Department of Health, Crete-Monee School District 201U & Other Community Organizations to Bring Support Services Directly to Families in Need

South suburban resource fair is first of several community events ComEd will attend this year as an extension of its 2023 award-winning outreach program

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To help individuals and families gain access to critical support services, including utility bill assistance, ComEd today joined a community resource fair organized by the Village of University Park, the Will County Department of Health, Crete-Monee School District 201U and other community organizations to bring much-needed services directly to those who need it most.

ComEd’s appearance at the Community Health, Education, Jobs & Trades Resource Fair marks the first in a series of community events ComEd will attend in 2024. It builds on last year’s impact from ComEd’s award-winning Powering Lives Resource Fairs, that similarly brought community and business organizations together to connect thousands of low-income customers to bill-assistance, energy-management programs, health screenings, job training opportunities and other support options.

“ComEd is proud to work with local organizations across the village of University Park to help bring resources directly to families and individuals,” said Melissa Washington, ComEd's Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President of Customer Operations. “Through this work, we’re better able to identify community-specific needs and create solutions that can have the greatest positive impact, whether they be bill assistance, training programs or simply tools to manage future energy bills.”

More than two dozen businesses and community organizations were on hand at the resource fair, held at the village’s Town Center.

"We are committed to providing our residents with the tools and resources they need to thrive, and I am grateful to ComEd for partnering with us to ensure our community has access to energy efficiency information and bill payment options,” said University Park Mayor Joseph Roudez III. “Together, we can create a brighter and more sustainable future for University Park and beyond."

ComEd’s participation in community resource fairs is the latest in an ongoing effort to expand the range of support options available to customers, particularly income-eligible families and individuals. Efforts include bill-assistance options, energy-management programs tailored for income-eligible customers, electric vehicle charger and installation rebates reserved for equity-eligible communities, and ComEd’s recent proposal to establish a new Low-Income Discount program to assist more customers with financial insecurity.

ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ: EXC), a Fortune 250 energy company with approximately 10 million electricity and natural gas customers – the largest number of customers in the U.S. ComEd powers the lives of more than 4 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
