Building Togetherness: Reliant Joins Forces with Lubbock Habitat for Humanity for a Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

— Reliant donation provides fencing for three Habitat homes and a year of free electricity for homeowners —

LUBBOCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In the spirit of community service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Reliant joined Lubbock Habitat for Humanity and Texas Tech University Athletics to put the finishing touches on three local homes. Reliant provided funding for the fencing materials and is also donating a year of free electricity to each of the homeowners.

“To celebrate and honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service, Reliant employees are treating the holiday as a ‘day on’ rather than a ‘day off’ by volunteering across the communities we serve,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president of Reliant. “We’re honored to support these Lubbock families by helping provide additional security and privacy for a safe and peaceful home. The work Habitat for Humanity is doing to change the lives of families is truly impactful, and we look forward to helping them further their mission in Lubbock.”

During the volunteer event, Reliant was joined by athletes from Texas Tech University. Together, they channeled their passion and energy into building homes that mark the beginning of a new chapter for these families.

When the houses are finished, Reliant will present a year of free electricity to the new homeowners. With the region opening to the Texas competitive electricity market, the homeowners will benefit from award-winning customer service and an array of convenient digital tools to help manage their energy use.

“Seeing so many people come together in service to support these families was so special and heartwarming, and we couldn’t have done it without Reliant’s financial support and hands-on volunteers,” said Christy Reeves, executive director of Lubbock Habitat for Humanity. “The needs of our community continue to increase, and partners like Reliant ensure we’re able to grow to serve even more families.”

Reliant’s commitment to community runs deep, including more than $4.8 million donated in 2023, supporting more than 200 organizations and providing over 4,000 volunteer hours.
