Wind River Wins 2023 Military + Aerospace Electronics Platinum Innovators Award for VxWorks Container Support

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wind River®, a global leader in delivering software for mission-critical intelligent systems, today announced that the 2023 MAE Innovators Awards program has named VxWorks® container support as a Platinum winner in the Embedded Computing category. The voting engineering community recognized the innovative impact of VxWorks as the first and only RTOS (real-time operating system) to support application deployment and management through containers.

“We are honored to earn a 2023 MAE Innovators Award, as it reflects the innovation and competitive edge we deliver to our aerospace and defense customers. As the only RTOS to support an OCI-compliant container engine, VxWorks delivers unmatched capabilities to manage and deploy applications without compromising determinism and performance,” said Avijit Sinha, chief product officer, Wind River. “We are proud to lead the embedded computing industry in supporting open standards–based containerization, which will transform aerospace, defense, and other mission-critical industries, such as automotive.”

The 2023 MAE Innovators Awards program celebrates outstanding innovation in defense and aerospace for the engineering industry. Every fall, it showcases and rewards companies, designers, and innovators who have contributed to the advancement of technology through their creative and impactful designs. The editorial staff at Military + Aerospace Electronics choose the qualified judging panel who selects the MAE Innovators Award winners.

Container support is one of the many reasons VxWorks is the industry’s most widely deployed RTOS. Container technologies, which are key to embedded applications architecture and management, will help accelerate innovation and scale for aerospace and defense organizations. By leveraging containers to package, deploy, and update software in a cloud-native architecture, aerospace and defense businesses can significantly improve scalability, simplify deployment, and enhance system update capabilities.
