Minneapolis Trial Attorney Paul K. Downes Named to American Board of Trial Advocates

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Minneapolis trial attorney Paul Downes has been elected into the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), according to an announcement today from SiebenCarey Personal Injury Law.

“I’m honored to be nominated and accepted as a member into this prestigious organization,” said Downes, who joined SiebenCarey as a partner in 2002. “Over the years, I’ve handled many injury trials throughout the state. I’m most proud of helping injured people and their families navigate these difficult times and get on with their lives.”

Downes joins several of his peers at SiebenCarey who are members of ABOTA, including fellow partner Susan Holden, who served as President of ABOTA’s Minnesota Chapter in 2018.

Established in 1958, ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges. Members must have at least five years of active experience as trial lawyers, have tried at least 10 civil jury trials to conclusion, and possess additional litigation experience. ABOTA is an invitation-only organization. Members must also exhibit the virtues of civility, integrity, and professionalism. ABOTA and its members are dedicated to preserving and promoting the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Downes is also a Certified Civil Trial Law Specialist, a certification program administered by the Minnesota State Bar Association and approved by the State Board of Legal Certification. His peers selected him for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2023 in the field of Plaintiff Personal Injury Litigation. Since it was first published in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Downes is also consistently recognized in the annual list of Minnesota Super Lawyers, another award determined by his legal peers.

A Minnesota State Bar Association member, Downes received his bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., and his J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He is active with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and several other charities, mentors law school students, and previously coached youth sports for many years.
