HealthPartners names Ginger Kakacek, MD, chief health plan medical officer

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HealthPartners today announced that Ginger Kakacek, MD, has been named chief medical officer of its health plan. In this role, she’ll provide leadership and medical oversight of the health plan to ensure members and patients receive high-quality, evidence-based and cost-effective care and services.

Dr. Kakacek has been a family medicine physician with the organization since 2000. She joined the health plan medical director team in 2014 and most recently served as vice president and senior medical director of health and care engagement.

“Ginger has been instrumental in our work to make care and coverage simpler and more affordable for those we serve,” said HealthPartners President and CEO Andrea Walsh. “She’s passionate about population health and combines her clinical experience with a focus on quality, affordability and innovation to drive improvement.”

Dr. Kakacek attended the University of Minnesota Medical School and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Practice. She will begin her new role immediately and also continue her clinical practice at Methodist Hospital and Park Nicollet clinics. She succeeds Pat Courneya, MD, who retired from his leadership role earlier this year.
