Amerita Notifies Individuals of Privacy Incident

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Amerita announced today that it is notifying individuals who may have been affected by an incident involving some of their personal information.

On March 14, 2023, Amerita and its parent company PharMerica learned of suspicious activity on their computer network. Upon discovering the incident, Amerita promptly began an internal investigation and engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate and secure its computer systems. The investigation determined that an unknown third party accessed Amerita computer systems from March 12-13, 2023, and that certain personal information may have been obtained as a part of the incident. Amerita recently identified a data set involved in the incident that contained the personal information of some Amerita patients. The information at-issue included name, address and certain patient information such as medical history, diagnosis, medications and health insurance information. Amerita has no indication that the incident involved Amerita patients’ Social Security numbers or driver’s license numbers.

At this point, Amerita is not aware of any fraud or identity theft to any individual as a result of this incident, but nonetheless has begun notifying potentially affected individuals to provide them with more information and resources. The notice includes information on steps individuals can take to protect themselves against potential fraud. In general, Amerita recommends that individuals regularly monitor credit reports, account statements and benefit statements. If individuals detect any suspicious activity, they should notify the entity with which the account is maintained, and promptly report any fraudulent activity to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state attorney general.
