WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following recent news that the Court of Chancery will immediately cease use of the term “Master in Chancery” following Governor Carney’s signing of SB 179 to amend the title due to its racist underpinnings, Citizens for Judicial Fairness released the following statement:

“It’s great that Governor Carney wants to ban an archaic term steeped in racism, but that’s the easy part. It would be even better if he paired this announcement with real, muscular action to address the outrageous lack of diversity on the Chancery Court - the most important business court in America. Instead, the Chancery, whose decisions affect tens of millions of diverse workers across the country, remains all-white. Saying the right thing isn’t enough, Governor - you must also correct injustice and ensure fairness in our judiciary. Anything short of that is hypocrisy. When the ink dries on John Carney’s governorship, he’ll be remembered more for his cowardice and complicity with the Delaware ‘Old Boys Club’ than for the symbolic victories he hangs his hat on – and certainly not for bringing about any real change for millions of people of color in Delaware, nor across America.”
