Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy Offers Option to Better Prepare Students for First Grade

OKLAHOMA CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA) is actively enrolling students for a new Transitional First (T-1) program launching in August. The personalized program is designed to address the needs of students who are not ready to move forward with the tasks and speed required by first grade curriculum and have been recommended for kindergarten retention.

“Rather than just having students repeat kindergarten, our T-1 program bolsters needed kindergarten skills while exploring first grade objectives,” said Audra Plummer, OVCA Head of School. “This approach allows young learners to build a strong foundation for success in first grade.”

T-1 teacher Christina McBride said most Oklahoma schools have transitioned away from Transitional First programs, so OVCA’s offering is truly unique.

“Many kindergartners are simply not ready for first grade, whether it’s because they have summer birthdays or they’re not prepared for the more advanced curriculum,” McBride said. “I look forward to working with these students and helping them grow to achieve educational milestones.”

Preference for the T-1 program is given to children who have birthdays in May, June, July or August and have not yet turned six. Learning coach support is also a requirement.

The program has limited enrollment capacity, so if interested, please contact Elementary K-2 Principal Karin Campbell at kacampbell@okvirutal.org.
