American Hydrotech’s Monolithic Membrane 6125® Celebrates 60th Year of Proven Performance

CHICAGO--()--This year marks the 60th anniversary of Monolithic Membrane 6125®, the original hot fluid-applied rubberized asphalt membrane. MM6125® created a better way to protect commercial buildings, establishing a new category and becoming the standard in the industry. MM6125 from American Hydrotech, a Sika Company, is the foundation used in constructing high performance roofs, vegetated green roofs, plaza decks with swimming pools and other multi-use rooftop applications. Since MM6125’s initial use in 1963, architects and building owners have trusted it to protect more than two billion square feet of roofing and waterproofing in more than 86 countries.

From one of MM6125’s first commercial installations in 1963 at the Peace Bridge that spans 5,800 feet and connects Canada and the United States, to the continually submerged water feature (since 1971) at the First Church of Christ Scientists Headquarters in Boston, the membrane has excelled in its ability to protect high-profile structures. When the Guggenheim Museum in New York City underwent a renovation in 1990, Monolithic Membrane 6125’s Ultimate Assembly was chosen to safeguard the fabled building. New construction projects also look to MM6125’s proven performance and design flexibility to bring to life unique visions like the hyperbolic paraboloid roof of the Hypar Pavilion at Lincoln Center.

“Whether it’s a commercial development, hospital, class A office building or the cornerstone of city development, when the longevity of the design and roofing performance is important, Hydrotech’s MM6125 is almost always part of the conversation,” states Stan Graveline Sr., Vice President and Business Manager with American Hydrotech.

According to Graveline, “Where the building absolutely cannot leak, owners and architects are looking for trusted, proven solutions. This is why we continue to innovate roofing and waterproofing applications to improve a building’s longevity, sustainability, design flexibility and occupants’ wellbeing. And since an MM6125 application can last two-to-three times longer than a typical traditional roofing system, we feel we’re protecting more than the building, we’re improving the roofing industry’s benchmark of sustainability.”
