Hurricane Electric Adds Additional High-Speed IP Transit to the Midwest with New Point of Presence in Kansas City

Fifth Point of Presence in Missouri brings robust, high-speed connectivity to the most geographically-centric technology industry in the U.S.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, announced today that it has deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) in NOCIX Kansas City. The new PoP is located at 201 East 16th Ave., North Kansas City, MO 64116.

The NOCIX Kansas City data center is just 15 miles from the Kansas City International Airport and is strategically located to serve customers throughout the Midwest. The 50,000 square-foot Tier 1 data center has dedicated power lines direct to NKC substation, a raised floor design with hot/cold aisles, N+1 HVAC and UPS, biometric access controls, and is located on a private, self-healing fiber ring connecting it to downtown. Public peering points include Kansas City Internet eXchange (KCIX), DE-CIX Dallas, and Minneapolis Internet Cooperative Exchange (MICE).

Kansas City is a technology hub for the Midwest, with one in every ten workers employed in tech. In 2024 when construction is complete, Kansas City will be the location for the new one million-square-foot, $800 million hyperscale data center for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, which will be supplied 100% with renewable energy.

This PoP is Hurricane Electric’s fifth location in Missouri and twelfth in the West North Central Midwest. It will provide organizations in the region with improved fault tolerance, load balancing, and congestion management in the delivery of next-generation IP connectivity services.

“It’s exciting to build our third PoP in Kansas City to serve the important Midwest market and provide their customers with high-speed global IP Transit,” said Mike Leber, President, Hurricane Electric. “This PoP is another step in our goal to provide connectivity throughout the globe.”

Customers of NOCIX Kansas City and in and around the Midwest now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. Additionally, customers at the facility can exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 30,000 BGP sessions with over 10,000 different networks via more than 280 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
