Why: Workers at the Fairmont Washington D.C., Georgetown, operated by Accor, are not protected by a union contract. Local 25 has negotiated contract with other hotels that include:

  • 100% employer-paid healthcare for union hotel workers and their families.
  • An employer funded fixed-benefit pension that allows union hotel workers to retire with dignity.
  • Days off: Most union hotel workers get two consecutive, fixed days off and are not required to work on their off-day, without 36-hour notice, unless there is an emergency.
  • Over time: Union hotel workers receive time and one-half pay if they over 40 hours in one week, if they work over 8 hours in one day, or if they work on their day off.
  • Room quotas for housekeepers: Union housekeepers in D.C. have workload protections and are not required to clean more than 16 rooms per day.
  • Work schedules: Most union hotel workers get their weekly schedule three days in advance—this allows workers to make plans, take care of personal obligations, and spend more time with their families.
