Hewlett Packard Pathfinder Makes Strategic Investment in API Protection Leader Cequence Security

Plans to jointly protect HPE customers from an API breach

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cequence Security, the leading provider of Unified API Protection (UAP), today announced Hewlett Packard Pathfinder, the venture capital program of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), has made a strategic investment in the company.

Hewlett Packard Pathfinder invests in category-leading start-ups, creates solutions combining portfolio companies’ technology with HPE products, and architects joint go-to-market programs. In addition, Hewlett Packard Pathfinder closely monitors longer-horizon disruptive innovation, helping encourage technological advancements that keep HPE on the leading edge.

The Cequence Unified API Protection (UAP) solution is the only offering that addresses all phases of the API protection lifecycle to defend an enterprise’s APIs from attackers and eliminate unknown and unmitigated API security risks that can lead to API breaches, data loss, fraud, and business disruption. Security teams deploying the UAP solution achieve continuous protection of their complete API risk surface, enabling their organizations to reap the competitive and business advantages of ubiquitous API connectivity securely while meeting regulatory compliance.

“We are excited to become an investor and to partner with Cequence Security in developing security protection solutions for our enterprise customers in conjunction with our HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform,” said Paul Glaser, Vice President and Head of Hewlett Packard Pathfinder. “Helping to protect our customers from data breaches – including API attacks – is a priority for HPE, and our partnership can expand the secure connectivity needed to mitigate business interruptions and bring peace of mind to enterprises.”

“Enterprises need to prevent breaches to APIs, especially when APIs are an increasingly important tool in creating rich interfaces,” said Ali Wasti, Managing Director, Hewlett Packard Pathfinder. “Cequence Security stood out to us because the company provides a complete platform that fortifies API security across the entire spectrum of use cases.”

“APIs are the currency of exchange in today’s digital business reality, and organizations of all sizes are using APIs to increase business velocity and create competitive advantage,” said Ameya Talwalkar, founder and CEO of Cequence Security. “However, APIs, which by their nature are highly visible and well-defined doorways into the data and business processes of organizations, are now the number one attack surface. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is a leading, trusted provider to the enterprise, and we are looking forward to working closely with the HPE team as partners on customer engagements.”

Cequence Security’s unique approach to uncovering and preventing API threats that can lead to fraud and data loss has resulted in the company protecting $9 trillion in assets among Fortune 500 companies and more than two billion user accounts worldwide. To date, Cequence Security has raised over $100M from top-tier investors including Dell Technologies Capital, HabourVest Partners, ICON Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Shasta Ventures, Telstra Ventures and T-Mobile Ventures.
