Grow Credit Brings Former Walmart Pay Exec Into Fold - Axel Wulff Named SVP of Finance

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Grow Credit, a financial inclusion startup dedicated to helping people raise their credit scores for free by leveraging their monthly subscription payments, such as Netflix or Spotify, is proud to announce that it has appointed former Walmart exec and software/finance industry veteran Axel Wulff as its new senior vice president of finance.

"We are thrilled to welcome Axel to the Grow Credit team," said Grow Credit CEO Joe Bayen. "His expertise in finance and accounting, combined with his deep knowledge of, and experience in the fintech industry, make him the perfect fit for this role. We look forward to working with Axel to continue driving our growth and success."

Wulff brings a rich pedigree to Grow Credit’s growing business, which has to date, helped users experience a 48-point average FICO Score increase.

Prior to joining Grow Credit, Wulff was most recently CFO for LIFELENZ, where he was responsible for finance, legal, HR and strategy solutions for the AI-powered workforce optimization leader. He is also known for his work at Walmart, where from 2010 to 2018 he oversaw strategy and business development for Walmart Services, the company's most profitable strategic business unit, where he helped grow the business unit from $300 million to $1.5 billion in annual operating income, comprising 10% of Walmart's U.S. operating income.

“Axel has an incredible grasp of how to grow a fintech business that can help so many people. From his time at Walmart, moving Walmart Pay from concept to deployment in nine months to creating Walmart’s Bluebird card program with American Express and growing Walmart’s MoneyCard business, we’re thrilled that Axel is adding Grow Credit to his list of impressive career highlights,” said Bayen.

"I am excited to join Grow Credit and help drive the company's financial strategy," said Wulff. "Grow Credit is at the forefront of the world of credit-building and financial inclusion, and I look forward to working with the team to continue building on its success."

In his new role, Wulff will be responsible for leading Grow Credit's finance team and driving the company's financial strategy. He will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the executive team to support the company's growth initiatives. Wulff joins an already bolstered management team that recently added Discover Financial Services veteran Jeffrey Anderson as its SVP of Compliance. In addition to key new hires, Bayen spoke at last month’s Fintech Meetup Conference in Las Vegas, showcasing the steps Grow Credit took to optimize collection from subprime and deep subprime audiences.

Grow Credit's credit-building platform helps consumers establish and build credit. The Grow Credit app and card have been especially popular with those with no credit or poor credit, who want to establish a credit history without the risk of taking on debt. While traditional cards rely on a hard inquiry on your credit reports with Grow, a soft credit check for identification purposes is only needed, which won't affect one’s credit score. The company has experienced significant growth in recent years and has plans to expand its offerings in the coming months.
