Relief Mental Health Expands Psychedelic Therapy Services with IV Ketamine to Meet Growing Need for Innovative Treatment

OAK BROOK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Relief Mental Health, an outpatient provider of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), Spravato (esketamine), psychiatry/medication management services, and therapy, has added another treatment to its arsenal of innovative therapy modalities.

Relief is now administering ketamine infusions in its Oak Brook office for individuals suffering from treatment-resistant depression, major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or behaviors, bipolar depression, anxiety, trauma, and other diagnoses.

“We’re still in the midst of a mental health crisis in this country and people need more options for care,” said Susan Mueller, founder and CEO of Relief Mental Health, which has 10 locations in three states. “Traditional treatment methods don’t always work for everyone. Some people struggle for years, even decades, try everything, and can’t seem to feel better. These people still need help and hope, and we’re here to provide that with whatever tools we can and with whatever works best for the individual.”

In addition to expanding its psychedelic service line, which includes SPRAVATO®—a prescription nasal spray form of ketamine and the first psychedelic drug to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of mental illness—Relief has opened several new locations in the Chicagoland area in the past year to meet the growing demand for mental health treatment. Most recently, it opened in Chicago’s West Loop and in Orland Park, and plans are underway for more locations in 2023.

For now, IV ketamine is being offered exclusively in Relief’s Oak Brook clinic. Evidence shows that infusions with ketamine have the same positive therapeutic effect as treatment with SPRAVATO®, which contains esketamine. The benefits are the same – symptom relief for several complex mental health disorders – but treatment sessions work differently.

Over the past two and a half decades, peer-reviewed research on ketamine shows:

  • Ketamine, as a rapid-acting antidepressant, can reduce symptoms associated with depressive disorders quickly, in as little as 40 minutes.
  • Seventy percent of patients with depressive symptoms experience improvement with ketamine treatment.

Relief’s other treatment approaches include the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which is indicated for the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), major depressive disorder, and more.

TMS is FDA-approved, non-invasive and does not cause any adverse or long-lasting side effects. It does not require a significant recovery period, and the 20-min treatment can easily be integrated into each patient’s day-to-day schedule. Many people who have not received adequate results from antidepressants or other forms of treatment have achieved great relief from TMS therapy.

Offering an expedited solution to long wait times typical for psychiatry appointments, Relief also provides medication management and can usually see patients within a week of the initial call. And, for those needing more emotional support to work through other mental health concerns such as trauma or life transitions and develop healthy coping skills, Relief has licensed therapists on hand for psychotherapy.

Relief accepts most major commercial insurance plans, Medicare and Tricare. Anyone interested in a free confidential assessment can call 855-205-4764.
