dope.security Granted Patent for Fly-Direct SWG Architecture

Patented dope.swg Performs Security Policy Enforcement on the Endpoint, Eliminating Stop-over Datacenters and Disrupting Secure Web Gateway Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--dope.security today announced it has secured a patent for the fly-direct architecture that powers the dope.swg from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent, USPTO Patent No. 11,431,755 titled Endpoint-Based Security, validates the company’s unique approach to Secure Web Gateway (SWG) architecture by performing security policy enforcement directly on the endpoint.

The patented dope.swg displaces legacy SWG architectures that intercept and reroute traffic through stopover datacenters for security checks and policy enforcement off-device. This archaic approach creates performance and reliability issues directly affecting the end user experience, and causes significant privacy concerns, decrypting sensitive content at a remote datacenter. The approach also builds dependencies into the architecture, making the Internet unusable in the event of an outage.

The dope.swg eliminates these performance, reliability, and privacy concerns experienced on legacy SWGs with a high-performance local enforcement engine to provide enhanced SWG functionality locally on device.

“Receiving our patent validates the fly-direct architecture as a unique and much-needed disruption to the tired, stagnant SSE market,” said Kunal Agarwal, Founder and CEO, dope.security. “Legacy SWGs were designed 20 years ago for a mode of work that no longer exists. Our patent is evidence that we are what’s needed – no outages, no re-routing, no degradation – it's a better approach with a beautiful, first class customer experience.”

The Fly-Direct Architecture

The dope.swg combines dope.cloud, which classifies web content and enables policy configuration, and dope.endpoint, which enforces security policies on the device. Malicious domains and policies are automatically sent to the dope.endpoint for on-device URL filtering, cloud application control, anti-malware, and policy enforcement. Caching models allows endpoints to make over 95% of their enforcement decisions without contacting the cloud, improving enterprise-wide performance, simplifying the admin experience, and enabling employee productivity.

Key benefits of the dope.swg include:

  • Reliability: Bypassing the stopover datacenter means SWG outages have zero effect on dope.swg functionality, eliminating the need to fail open or disable agents.
  • Performance: Network connections are fast and consistent with dope.swg. The Fly-Direct architecture increases performance by up to 4x and ensures connections are never downgraded from HTTP2.
  • Privacy: dope.swg conducts SSL inspections on the endpoint instead of at a remote datacenter, ensuring sensitive customer data never leaves the endpoint.
