Groups Recover Together Implements Owl Labs Technology to Make Distance Disappear for Americans Struggling With Substance Use Disorder

Groups and Owl Labs improve engagement and remove barriers for in-person and virtual care.

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Groups Recover Together, the nationwide leader in value-based care for opioid addiction treatment, has announced it is now utilizing Owl Labs’ devices to outfit all group therapy rooms across the country with Owl’s AI-enabled, 360-degree meeting technology.

COVID shuttered offices, schools, governments and drove a dramatic increase in fatal drug overdoses. In response, Groups Recover Together accelerated its virtual offering, bringing life-saving treatment to those otherwise isolated entirely from care. Groups operates in more than 140 communities across the country and today more than 30% of members live 50 or more miles from a Groups office.

“This is about meeting our members where they are. With Owl Labs we’ve created an immersive and engaging environment filled with meaningful moments” said Cooper Zelnick, Groups’ Chief Growth Officer.

Groups has also developed unique and immersive training programs to support clinicians and empower them to deliver human centered care via technology.

“When I first saw that Owl camera in the center of the group room, I wasn’t sure what to think,” said Diana Norkus, Groups counselor in Richmond, KY. “But pretty soon members were talking about it like it was a part of our group.”

As the pandemic recedes, a national conversation is unfolding about the future of telemedicine.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Owl Labs’ technology to focus on a problem that hits close to home for so many people,” said Frank Weishaupt, CEO Owl Labs. “Our products enable people to connect with one another even when they can’t all be in the same room.”

In the United States, only 1 in 5 people suffering from opioid addiction receive treatment. Groups remains committed to bringing treatment to healthcare deserts in rural communities across the United States in person and virtually through Owl Labs technology.
