UHSM Highlights Affordable Health Care Options During Open Enrollment

Take advantage of the health share ministry’s programs of preventative and proactive services

NORFOLK, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Unite Health Share Ministries™ (UHSM), a nonprofit, faith-based healthcare-sharing ministry supporting Christian believers through member-to-member healthcare-sharing memberships, encourages the public to explore their healthcare options this open enrollment season. Beginning November 1, 2022, until January 15, 2023, open enrollment is the annual period where individuals can adjust their current health plan or enroll in an alternative program for the following calendar year.

"At UHSM, we understand the importance of opting into the appropriate healthcare membership for you and your family," says Christopher Jin, UHSM president. "Open enrollment is the opportune time to switch, perhaps towards a non-traditional type of care, such as a healthcare sharing membership, that focuses on mind, body and spirit. As a healthcare sharing ministry, we see ourselves as a connector, administrating the cost-sharing program, and helping like-minded, Christian members support each other."

In 2021, $1.3 billion of medical expenses were allocated by health-sharing ministries. Health share plans are not insurance programs. Instead, they are cooperatives whereby a group of individuals voluntarily agree to share each other's medical expenses. With no enrollment period or having the plan tied to an employer, health shares are a more flexible program. The member-based fellowship of UHSM allows faithful people to take charge of their healthcare, paying monthly share contributions that assist in paying for member medical expenses, saving members up to 50% in medical costs. Acknowledging the overwhelming burden that may arise during a medical emergency, UHSM believes everyone has a right to medical care at a reasonable price.

UHSM offers many programs designed to fit a range of medical and financial needs, including unlimited telehealth and preventative and proactive care services. Additionally, UHSM provides its members access to an expansive PHCS® PPO network of over 1.2 million Primary Care Providers (PCP), medical providers, specialists, urgent care and hospitals across the United States. Members can access low-cost, pre-negotiated medication rates through the ministry's Rx network. For more information and program details, visit the UHSM website.
